Pohokura Offshore Campaign UPDATE

OMV’s Pohokura Offshore Campaign is progressing steadily with work completed on two wells and platform maintenance activities at an advanced stage.

As the campaign has progressed, some additional time has been required to complete the work scope. The campaign is taking advantage of the rig being onsite and completing additional maintenance to ensure the offshore facility will continue to efficiently deliver gas to market into the future.

Full production from the offshore wells is now targeted for mid-May, rather than the original goal of end-April.
Between now and then we anticipate about 18 days of offshore production outages – comprising of intermittent outages for approximately six days followed by a continuous shutdown of about 12 days during decoupling of the rig and platform.

OMV will provide further updates as the project progresses.

Background Note

Situated off the coast of Taranaki, the Pohokura gas field is about 16 kilometres long and five kilometres wide. It is the country’s largest natural gas resource, producing about 40 per cent of the gas required for New Zealand’s energy generation.

The field consists of five offshore wells and three onshore wells, linked by the onshore Pohokura Production Station. It is the only field in the country to have no personnel on site, instead being controlled remotely from a small office at OMV’s building on Devon St, New Plymouth.
