Alfred Stern takes seat as OMV Executive Board member for Chemicals & Materials in April

Effective April 1, 2021, Alfred Stern heads the newly formed division Chemicals & Materials in his role as Executive Officer at OMV. He was appointed by the OMV Supervisory Board in February 2021 for a period of 3 years with an extension option of an additional 2 years.

With Alfred Stern, OMV has managed to bring on board a manager with a wealth of international experience in the chemicals industry, who has not only achieved an excellent positioning for Borealis’ polyolefin business in recent years but also evolved the company in the direction of a circular economy.

On April 1, 2021, the reorganization of the OMV Group approved by the Supervisory Board in February comes into force, which involves splitting and expanding the current area of Refining & Petrochemical Operations into two areas: Refining and Chemicals & Materials. This structural change facilitates the forward integration in the chemicals sector that has been underway ever since OMV acquired a majority stake in Borealis. With this change, OMV is consistently positioned across the entirety of its expanded value chain and can consolidate all relevant responsibilities for petrochemicals and chemicals in a single board division.

Also effective April 1, 2021, Thomas Gangl, currently OMV Executive Board member for Refining & Petrochemical Operations, takes over as Chief Executive Officer of Borealis.

The Executive Officer Refining will be filled at a later date. Until the new Executive Board Member is appointed, this area will be headed by Elena Skvortsova, Executive Officer Marketing & Trading, on an interim basis.
